History

The Foundation for Mental Health was incorporated in 1987 as a private non-profit 501(c)3 organization for the purpose of bringing resources and capacity to assist with the mental health needs in Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties. Initial activities focused on psychiatric recruitment, evening counseling services and software development.  In the mid 1990’s FMH decided to focus on the critical needs for supportive housing for persons with mental health needs.  The service area for FMH now includes Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Benzie, Antrim and Kalkaska counties.
